MAXENT 96 REGISTRATION INFORMATION Kruger National Park, South Africa 13th August to 18th August 1996 MAXENT 96 will be held at the Berg-en-Dal Conference Centre and Resort in the Kruger National Park. It is one of South Africa's premier tourist destinations and a unique type of venue for an international conference. Please note that a reduced fee is available for guests accompanying a delegate and there is no extra accommodation cost if sharing. All amounts are quoted and must be paid in South African Rands. As a guideline US$1 is approximately R4.30 and 1 pound sterling is approximately R6.50. PLEASE REGISTER AND PAY EARLY BECAUSE * Reserved accommodation at Berg-en-Dal is limited and NO other accommodation is available. * The current exchange rate is very favourable to foreign visitors, but may fluctuate over the next few months. * A 15% DISCOUNT on registration fees is allowed for all registrations with payment received by the 7th June in view of the large early deposit required by the Kruger National Park. CONFERENCE FEE PER DELEGATE: R1000 (R850 if paid by 7 June) The Conference Fee includes: * Conference registration, teas and snacks. * Entrance and use of all Kruger National Park facilities. * Welcome cocktail party. * All dinners except the Conference Banquet. * Continental breakfast provisions in your chalet. * Transfers to and from Nelspruit airport. GUEST FEE PER PERSON ACCOMPANYING DELEGATE: R740 (R629 if paid by 7 June) The Guest Fee includes all but the first point above. ACCOMMODATION (Tuesday 13th to Saturday 17th inclusive) Delegates and guests will be accommodated either in a one bedroom chalet with shower and kitchenette or in one bedroom of a two bedroom chalet with shared full bathroom, lounge and kitchenette. Each bedroom comfortably accommodates two people. The cost is R1250 per bedroom in either case (for one or two people), except that a reservation for a full two bedroom chalet is reduced to R2400. (The two bedroom chalets can accommodate up to six people with two (built-in) beds in the lounge area; there is no extra charge for additional persons). MEALS Provisions for continental style breakfasts, tea and coffee are supplied at your chalet. On Tuesday evening there will be a welcome cocktail party with hot and cold food. Dinners on Wednesday and Saturday will include local specialities and traditional South African "braai vleis" or barbecue. These are all included in the Conference Fee. The Conference Banquet on Thursday will feature local delicacies, smoked salmon, roast Kudu (a local antelope), crocodile and langoustines (a large and delicious shrimp from Mozambique). Other special dishes will be available for the less adventurous! The conference banquet will be R200 per person including wine and soft drinks. Lunches, Breakfasts and Set Dinners are also available at the Berg-en-Dal restaurant at very reasonable prices and it has a full selection of wine, beers and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. EXCURSIONS PLEASE NOTE THAT EXCURSIONS ARE LIMITED BY VEHICLES AND GUIDES. PLACES WILL BE ALLOCATED ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS. * Night game drives are run by the Kruger National Park with spot lights and experienced ranger guides. These are around four hours long and include a picnic dinner. Since the camp gates are closed between dusk and dawn and no travel is allowed during these hours, this is the only way to see the game reserve after dark. The cost is R50 per person. * Day game drives are run by the Kruger National Park with experienced ranger guides. These are approximately four hours long and would be suitable for guests accompanying delegates. The cost is R85 per person. * It is proposed to run early morning and late afternoon short game drives using the conference minibuses. Those will be arranged at the conference for a nominal charge. STUDENTS Local students may apply for reduced registration rates and shared accommodation will be arranged at R375 per student. PAYMENT All payments need to be made in South African Rands. The easiest way for foreign delegates to pay is by credit card. Simply fill in the form enclosed, fax it to us or mail in the original form, and the appropriate amount in your currency will be deducted from your credit card account at the exchange rate current on that day. It will appear on your statement as MAXENT 96. Because we are required to pay a 50% deposit to the Kruger National Park well in advance, we will not be able to make full refunds except in special circumstances. O T H E R I N F O R M A T I O N CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS The full Conference Proceedings will be published by Kluwer and will be mailed to all delegates at a special conference rate equivalent to 125 Dutch guilders. Arrangements for ordering and payment will be announced later. CALL FOR PAPERS Contributed papers are requested on the innovative use of Bayesian methods or the maximum entropy principle. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is May 31, 1996. They should be written in LaTeX or ASCII and limited to one page of about 400 words.
